Artist's Description

Built during the second boom era of Fairhaven, the Nelson Block, trimmed with Chuckanut sandstone, served as a bank for over 30 years until the second Depression forced it out of business. Other businesses in this building have included a grocery store, saloon, candy shop, bookstore, and restaurants in the basement. The upper floor was converted into apartments as the original offices were vacated. As one of the most haunted buildings in Fairhaven, the Nelson Block has made several people uncomfortable inside; others refuse to enter. It is said that a 17-year-old woman died in a dentist chair there and continues to walk the halls with the sound of stepping on broken glass. One bizarre event took place in the 1970s when parts of a human skeleton were found buried in the basement foundation during a renovation. Restaurant employees through the years have had various experiences: sightings, sounds and chills. One worker, alone on a late closing in the 1980s saw a woman's ghostly fo...
