Hi Carl! Thank you. The shoe, the clothing, and the burning castle represent things he values, and fears loosing. He identifies with them. But they are just trappings of the ego.

Hi Rick! The message I was trying to convey in this painting was, to let go of the struggle and have faith. By faith I mean trust in the process of life. Everything happens for a reason. Every event is an opportunity to grow, to evolve spiritually. Focus your attention on interpretations of yourself and your life that feel good. Adopt a playful positive attitude. When you do you will begin to see those demons change into beautiful helping spirits. The Universe is on your side. It wants to see you happy.

The falling shoe is a nice touch.

Thank you so much Santi! I am glad you enjoyed the piece.

Great imagination creating different spirits. Wings differents, heads differents... And one spirite have a head-genitals. I love the stile of this monsters. Abosolutly fantastic!

Hi Dan! Funny you should mention, The Temptation of Saint Anthony. It was an engraving, with that theme, by Martin Schongauer, that was my original inspiration. Thanks for your comment. I really appreciate the feed back.

What I had in mind while doing this piece, was a movie called Jacobs Ladder. In the painting, as in the movie, the main character is struggling against the flow of well being. The demons around him are actually helpful spirits, guiding him towards his desires. But he doesn't see them that way. He thinks they are destroying his life. In the movie when he stops struggling, the demons disappear, and a little boy appears, and takes him by the hand, and leads him up a spiral staircase.

how true! we struggle against the flow of overly complex structures and systems and are often frustrated by an invisible force that undermines our attempts to affect positive change. what a cruel foray! fantastic work.

The picture was all I expected

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS in red, (expensive taste, huh!) is my son's favorite car. This was a gift for his tenth birthday. He placed it on his bookshelf next to his computer, where it can be seen from his bed and desk. Once received, I was somewhat skeptical of my chosen size. But, with a frame I painted red to match the car, it turned out great. The quality of the print is awesome! Thank you!

Artist's Description

I started this Painting in 1997, but was not satisfied with it. So I continued to make changes to it, now and then over the years. In 2009 I finally decided I was done with it. The man is struggling against helpful spirits who are trying to bring him to his hearts desires. But he is holding on to old beliefs, and sees the spirits as demons who are trying to destroy his life.
