That Time Again
After dinner, as is my habit,
I climb the stairs to the reading room.
My chair, washed in moonlight, awaits,
but I cannot sit.
The growing weight of sorrow
in the fragile coffin of my heart will not bear the light,
and if it bursts I will be drowned in bitter blackness.
The pain, a Lazarus come for birthday cake,
never fails to resurrect.
I don't know when I will be able to bathe,
book in hand, again in moonlight;
perhaps tomorrow, perhaps never,
for your ghost will not be laid, nor would I wish it.
I know when those who do not remember
light the candles, singing, you will be there.
Your voice is the undercurrent of life's river,
your death the constant companion
to my birth,
handfasted forever by the priests of memory
until all my years are gone.

When one sees a chair one thinks of sitting in it. Here your words describe differently. Combined this glow and the misty starry night make this so intriguing. So thought provoking Gina. F/L
RC DeWinter replied:
In memory of my late son, who died on my birthday 10 years ago. Thank you, Randy.

Marvelous setting for this beautiful digital artwork, Gina! Love the pathos in your poem, too! L/F

This painting invites one to take a seat by the moonlight. The large windows lets one gaze out at the magic and mystery of the night.

RC DeWinter replied:
Thanks so much, Ann. My niece fell in love with this as well so I got her a notebook with this as the cover.

Interesting perspective and mood, love it RC! Hmmm a story is in the waiting...
RC DeWinter replied:
The story is in the poem, Lexa, although it is no doubt a bit obscure. I appreciate your visit.
