Artist's Description

This is part of the Woods homestead built in 1870 by Marvin Woods, a wounded Civil War veteran. It is near Eagle Point, Oregon. I was fascinated by how hard and primitive things were in the past and this is what I was trying to capture in this photo. It's one of the most photographed and painted houses in the Northwest.

When I grab my camera and head out, I get totally lost...absorbed. I see things I previously walked right past. I see the way the sun is highlighting the ivy on that dead tree; or backlighting those Oregon Grape leaves making the orange, red and green of fall glow. Then, the crowning touch, it's covered with ice crystals. I love the challenge and excitement of finding that unusual or special setting... that glimpse of beauty to capture and enjoy later, visiting it often like an old friend. I live in Oregon, and my passion is to share the beauty I find all around me here in the Pacific Northwest. Just in Southern Oregon alone, we have 2 national parks, 2 national monuments, 6 national wildlife refuges, 11 national forests, and 19...
