During a trip to southeastern North Carolina, we visited Wrightsville Beach in the city of Wilmington, NC. At the norther end of the beach, because we had just had a tropical storm brush the coast of North Carolina, the waves are very active and higher than normal, especially in certain areas of the coast. I had been watching this surfer ride the waves from the to the south and this image was taken during his trek back toward the pier, I assume, to start riding the waves again. Surfing is a surface water sport in which the wave rider, referred to as a surfer, rides on the forward or deep face of a moving wave, which is usually carrying the surfer toward the shore. This image was taken with a Nikon Nikor 55mm-300mm lens.
