Description
Ed Cooper adjusting prussik knots at the base of the Dihedral Wall on El Capitan in Yosemite Valley, CA, during the first ascent in 1962. Prussik knots were superseded by mechanical ascenders, which became available in 1963. Note that I am wearing a canvas bosons chair. This enabled me to hook into an anchor and rest in a seated position. It also acted as somewhat of a climbing harness before these became available. Image taken with my camera that I handed to someone else.
