Description
It is the final moments in the air for Endeavour. The 18 year old veteran of 25 missions is on short final for Rwy 25R atop her 747SCA.In about ten seconds, the remarkable career of this orbiter, and the others built before her, will finally come to an end.
The significance of this moment is clearly evident in this photograph. Locals and visitors and airport employees are out in force, lining the rooftops, crowding the streets, and filling the parking lots to catch a glimpse of the last shuttle to take to the skies, ever. Also visible in a less obvious way is how the city of Los Angeles has rolled out the red carpet - arriving aircraft are in a hold, circling about so that Endeavour and company has priority use of the entire airspace. no one takes off or lands until she is on the ground.
"T-minus 10 seconds..." is history frozen in time, capturing the last seconds of a long and distinguished NASA program. It's a must-have for any shuttle enthusiast.
