Description
Pirmasens is an independent town in the Germany state of Rhineland-Palatinate (Rheinland-Pfalz), not far from the border with France. It was famous for its shoe manufacturing industry. Named for St. Pirminus, the founder of the abbey at Hornbach, Germany, it was first mentioned in documents in 860 AD.
Besides this magnificent bronze bull sculpture overlooking the shopping district of the town, various additional bulls can be seen around town. The bull is the trademark of the town, referring to the leather tanning and shoemaking industries which kept Pirmasens thriving for years. The citizenry was somewhat opposed to installation of this sculpture but it has turned into a beautiful addition and tribute to the city's honorable history.

nicely photographed. why would the citizenry be opposed to a beautiful statue? L/F
Darin Williams replied:
Thank you very much, Constance! I'm sure the citizens were skeptical how it would look and change their Old Town area.
