That is one owl looking eye on that butterfly! Amazing mimicry what they can come up with in nature! v/f

It was a really neat place. I was going to say 'cool' place, but it was hot in there! Thanks!!

Surprisingly quick response and delivery time . The customizing process was easy to figure out , and the bag was exactly as i had ordered it . It's perfect to carry around my sketch pad and pencils or framed art work . The fabric is heavy weight , and the handle is sturdy and well attached . Good overall construction and the image quality is bright and clear .

Received this lovely tote. The image printed beautifully on the fabric. I ordered the small 13x13 size and find it attractive and handy for carrying odds and ends. I'm looking forward to showing it off.

Ordered this in the generous large size. It is beautiful, very dynamic. Am very happy with the quality of the image and the bag itself.

I ordered this tote bag for myself and I love it. The colors are vivid and crisp. The fabric and handles are sturdy. I have already gotten several complements from others as I run my errands. They ask where I got it and I direct them to your website and give them the artist’s name. Glad I bought it.

Artist's Description

Butterflies in the genus Caligo are commonly called owl butterflies, after their huge eyespots, which resemble owls' eyes. They are found in the rainforests and secondary forests of Mexico, Central, and South America. ............ Owl butterflies are very large, 2.6 to 7.9 inches, and fly only a few feet at a time, so avian predators have little difficulty in following them to their settling place. However, the butterflies preferentially fly in dusk, when few avian predators are around. The Latin name may possibly refer to their active periods, as Caligo means darkness. ............ The under wing pattern is highly cryptic. It is conceivable that the eye pattern is a generalized form of mimicry. It is known that many small animals hesitate to go near patterns resembling eyes with a light-colored iris and a large pupil, which matches the appearance of the eyes of many predators that hunt by sight. The main predators of Caligo are apparently small lizards such as Anolis. ............

About Jon Burch Photography

Photography is all about using light to capture the emotion and the beauty of a fleeting moment. It was a long time ago and that camera was my passport to an art that has fascinated me ever since. I owned a professional studio in central Kansas for 20 years until I sold the business and moved to Colorado. Part of the studio's early success came from creating outdoor...
