Description
This lovely old building located near Hammondsport, New York, had been the headquarters of the Taylor Wine Company, the oldest winery in the Finger Lakes region. Established in 1880, Walter Stephen Taylor started a commercial grape juice company in New York’s Finger Lakes region. Two years later, wine production was added, and by the 1920s, the Taylor Wine Company was firmly established. Walter Taylor’s three sons carefully guided the company through Prohibition and beyond, making it the most important winery in the Northeast. Unfortunately, due to various corporate takeovers over the years, by 1995 the company was essentially obliterated. However, various family members have now established other fine wineries in the region, notably the Bully Hill Winery. The old building currently houses the Finger Lakes Boating Museum. This rainy day shot helps saturate and emphasize the beauty of the doors and building facade while also creating a somber mood that goes along with the unfortunate ending history of this great company.
