My husband and I had a lovely trip to Paris and southern France last July. While on a bus trip we were able to take a photo of this cafe that we share a name with. Our photo was a little blurry and not good for enlargement. Your wonderful photo now hangs in our own kitchen as a nice reminder of that trip. It is beautiful and of very good quality. We love it. Thank you Mary Flore

About Maggie Terlecki
I'm a photographer from a small town in Quebec, Canada and I do mostly Still Life compositions and Urban Vignettes. I take pictures of things I feel a connection to, a way of sharing my feelings, my world, and my place in it. My approach to photography is essentially the same as how an author uses words to write a story. Hopefully, you’ll find my voice and vision within my work. I also do digital painting - mostly fantastical creatures like fairies.

This whole series of portraits is truly extraordinary, and I am fascinated by your discription of this Mexican tradition. Mexico as well as many other South American countries have very unique ccultures, shaped by their various religious traditions - the pre-Columbian heritage mixed with the colonial Spanish Catholicism. Both dark and mysterious. The 1st of November is in European Catholic tradition an All Saints Day during which one visits graves of the departed loved ones. This Mexican celebrations you refer to must have sprung from such a tradition and the ancient Aztec fascination with sculls, death, ritualistic painting and so forth. Very cool interpretation on your part. Beautifully creative, mysterious yet lyrical vanitas. L/f You are so versitile in your creative vocabulary Maggie! Love it!
Maggie Terlecki replied:
Yvonne, the day of the dead makeup is very popular right now and it intrigued me enough to go and read about it. You are right, All Saints Day and even Halloween, the day before, is a celebration of those that celebrates the ones that we have lost. We bring flowers to their graves, but the South Americans really make a special day of it. So interesting! Thank you for all your kind works, Yvonne, I think you are a fabulous artist so to get this comment from you is extra special!

Ha....great work Maggie !! Here in my country Halloween still isn't becoming very popular...how ever hard your world is trying ;-)
Maggie Terlecki replied:
I think the candy manufacturers are the ones pushing for your country to do Halloween as they are looking for sales. For me, Halloween was something I did when I was a child. No fancy costumes, just my dad's hat with ashes smudged on my cheeks to look like a vagabond. It was so exciting to go out and pick up treats. Many people made their own and you would find hand pulled taffy and caramel apples. It has changed but the excitement of the kids has not and I continue to give out treats each year. As for these illustrations, they are for the 1st of November, the day of the dead, but work so well for Halloween at the same time. They are very niche and only a few people sell them here, so I thought I'd try to get a few sales and actually sold a pillow of Lux, another of the sugar skull girls just today. Once the weekend is over, they will still be here, but moved lower in the galleries. Thanks for stopping by. Always nice to see your face! :-) Maggie
