This cholla cactus, humorously named the 'teddy bear', appears to be soft, fluffy and maybe even a little cuddly- however, don't let the cute name fool you! These lovely looking cactus are best viewed from a distance; getting too close can be an extremely painful experience as the segments of this cactus break off at the slightest touch and can instantly become embedded in skin and clothing. In the springtime, the cholla cactus produces new spiny segments and waxy yellow flowers.
