Description
Here is the Thank You floor of the chapel of St. Roch in New Orleans.
Basically this room and floor were created for patrons to give thanks to St.Roch for physical cures. On the floor you will see the bricks with words such as thanks, merci, or even a name. Pennies are tossed onto the bricks. A strand of mardi gras beads can be seen on the right side. The room is locked today, so if you want a photo of it, you have to stick your camera's lens between the iron bars. This room has quite a history as does St.Roch Church. Thanks, kkp!

Thanks, Bob!! Pretty cool place. I did not really know about it, but this photographer who is also a deacon of a Protestand church here did know about it and took me there one day. He knew a lot of the history, so we had a very interesting adventure. I had seen this floor on a postcard in a book of NOLA postcards but did not know where it was taken. I was delighted to find it. The problem in shooting it is that the floor is literally littered with everything you would never think of... bag of dried beans, trash, empty plastic bottles, and more. So finding a patch of floor is tricky. I absolutely love this floor!! St. Roch Chapel itself is tiny... little lilliputian pews in which we sat just as if we were at church. The tombs in the surrounding cemetery are like what you will find here but many have photos of the deceased in little frames sort of on them. I love New Orleans. We don't follow any other drummer but our own! :)) kk
