This oil on canvas Christmas nativity painting was started in 1505 and completed in 1510 by Giorgione. The style is High Renaissance and the Genre is religious painting.

Giorgio Barbarelli Castelfranco c. 1477/8 - 1510 was an Italian painter of the High Renaissance in Venice. His career was cut short by his death at about 32. Giorgione is known for the elusive poetic quality of his work, though only about six surviving paintings are acknowledged for certain to be his work. The resulting uncertainty about the identity and meaning of his art has made Giorgione one of he most mysterious figures in European painting.
Together with Titian, who was slightly younger, he is the founder of the distinctive Venetian School of Italian Renaissance Painting, which achieves much of its effect through color and mood, and is traditionally contrasted with the reliance on a more linear disegno of Florentine painting.

I was born in San Jose, California in 1953. In 1954 we moved to the suburbs of Detroit Michigan. We moved again to the suburbs of Chicago in 1956. Due to my Dad’s employment, we moved to Pennsylvania in 1959, so I have lived Penna. in since then. I grew up on a small farm in Pennsylvania and was inducted into the National Honor Society in high school. I was on the Dean's List a few times and earned my degrees in biology and natural science at Muhlenberg College, a small liberal arts college in Allentown PA in the mid 70s. The art history course I took in my senior year at Muhlenberg College and did extremely well in, was very educational, and I enjoyed it.
