Description
I took this panoramic photograph while on a trip up Highway 395 in early 2011. We decided to get out early that morning to make the three hour trek to the Owens Valley area.
The Alabama Hills are actually considered to be part of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range. The area has been used as a backdrop for over 400 films since the early 1920's. Commercials are also filmed there on a regular basis. Mount Whitney's peak can be seen just right of the lone tree. The 30,000 acres of land it sits on is covered with various rock formations that are a photographers paradise and a hikers play land. There is a bit of an eeriness to the landscape. Almost other worldly. Enjoy.
