annual ice sculpting festival in the mountain town of Cripple Creek, Colorado located on the southwest slope of America's favorite mountain, Pikes Peak at 9500 feet (2900 meters) above sea level. Each year, in February, many artists from around the U.S. descend on Cripple Creek to showcase their talents by carving amazingly detailed statues out of blocks of ice using chain saws and other tools. This statue shows a siren. In Greek mythology, sirens were sea nymphs who lured nearby sailors to the shore by singing enchanting songs. DSC 4910 B&W D7000
