The Apostle John, who scripture calls the most beloved disciple of Jesus, son of Zebedee and Salome, brother of the martyred James, who scripture calls the most beloved disciple of Jesus. In his later years he was exiled to the penal Isle of Patmos by the ruler Domitian. On this sterile, rocky isle he recorded what today is called the Book of Revelation, or Apocalypse, the last book of the Holy Bible. The isle and the cave in which he dwelt can be visited today by all.
