Mr Gary 'Richo' Richardson was a former boat driver at Snapper Island, Sydney. His late father, Alan Richardson, was the first Sea Cadet No. 1 (c1921) and later, Keeper of the Sydney Training Depot, Snapper Island.
When Snapper Island closed after 60 years, the Sydney Training Depot moved to the nearby Spectacle Island, a 19th-century armaments depot, and now home to the Royal Australian Navy's Heritage Collection.
After many years in retirement, 'Richo' revisited Building 37, Spectacle Island, and was utterly transfixed by the craftsmanship of Mr David Glasson. My contribution was the tea & biscuits in the foreground.
In the background is the partially-restored Matilda, a Standard Motor Launch (1910) of the Royal Australian Navy, ex-H.M.A.S.
