Description
The Cistercian monastery (monasterium beatae Mariae virginis in Candelis de Kerch) first occurs in documents from 1216, but researches demonstrated that the first wooden buildings were raised between 1202-1206. The first stone chapel was built between 1210-1215, the first fencing wall between 1230-1241. Following the invasion of the Tatars (1242), the works became more intense, and all the buildings were rebuilt.
