Description

A blurred digital photograph of a most unusual confrontation between a very aggressive Mexican Jay and an overpowered male Acorn Woodpecker. The Jay pinned the woodpecker to the ground and began ripping out breast feathers. This photo was taken along Cave Creek in the Chiricahua Mountains of Southeastern Arizona while I was looking for hummingbirds. The scene developed so rapidly I didn't have time to properly adjust my camera so I include it in this gallery only for its interest value. Seconds after this shot was made the woodpecker managed its escape minus its pride and a lot of feathers.

Dave - Thank you for including this I prefer the blurred background.. the focus is that incredible Jay with feathers flying and the look of shock in the woodpecker's eye. I love the wings pulled back and the incredible coloring on the Jay. It is in my favorites and on Facebook
