Artist's Description
Yesterday, while walking among the sagebrush and the blustery Wyoming wind, I spied the first tiny wildflower of spring. Despite the snowfall of the previous night, a brave Sagebrush Buttercup had begun to open its yellowish-green petals to the cold sunlight. A wave of delight and nostalgia washed over me. Upon returning home, I remembered one of my early field sketches and found it in the notebook I've kept since age 17. I drew this lifesized sketch (about 2 inches) when I had just turned 18.
About Dawn Senior-Trask
I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers. My artwork consists of all these things and more...
