Thank you did you catch the mouse going into the nose he is the snakes next meal !

Yes, the skull is brilliant and makes the whole picture. It is sometimes difficult to know what to leave out mentioning ! After I had gone away from this, I was still thinking about it and wondering if I should have said how much I liked that little snail looking down from his vantage point on top of the mushroom! And now, coming back this morning, I see also that this work has quite rightly been recognized in a competition, and I am so happy to see that !!

I purchased this picture as a gift to my daughter who grew up in Sandpoint and currently lives in America Samoa. She was home for Christmas this year and this picture was a beautiful way for me to send a piece of her home town with her.

I purchased this picture for my son who lives in Spokane but grew up in Sandpoint. He loves the Northwest and this was a beautiful representation of how special growing up here is.

Artist's Description

This drawing represents the food chain of which we are all apart of. Whether we choose to have other people raise our meat and vegetables or we partake directly by harvesting our own meat and growing our own vegetables we are all interconnected. In this drawing the trees drop leaves and acorns, the acorns feed the deer, the deer is then eaten by the coyote, the coyote leaves the hide, bone, and meat scraps which feed other animals and helps enrich the soil. The enriched soil feeds the trees, the trees leaf-litter feeds the mushrooms, snail and cricket, the cricket is eaten by the mouse, the mouse is food for the snake, and the snake could feed hawks, owls, raccoons, skunks, foxes, etc. The shotgun shell represents man who uses this tool to harvest animals in the food chain for his table rather than buying his meat from unknown, questionable, third parties. The shotgun shell could have been replaced by the symbol of a Styrofoam fast food container, but that is to sad for my art.

From my earliest days I have had a passion for all things related to nature and the natural world. At an early age my love and respect for nature and animals was developed through me participating in nature through fishing, hunting, photography, hiking, and the hobby of entomology. It was, and still is common to see me running around with a bug net studying, collecting, and mounting for preservation insects of all sorts. These activities may not get you into the “in” crowd but I was never concerned about that. I do believe though that it has shaped...
