Using as a wallet
A long time ago, in a galaxy seemingly far, far away, a very young man took several flights from the U.S. to a little known airfield in S.E. Asia at a place called Long Tieng. He was not in the military, but worked for a private company that owned the South East Asian Tourism Bureau. He rode trucks, jeeps and finally the ubiquitious Xe Oms, a hybrid of a motorcycle and a rickshaw made into a taxi. He was only in the city that he traveled to for a few days, but took some personal photos and "The Fruit Girl" ( Cô gái trái cây) was one of them. What caught his attention was not only the every present Non La, the conical woven hat, but the fact that her blouse was not black, but sriped, which was a rarity at that time. She was caught on film passing a decrepit barn that had been rebirthed as a store/flophouse. "The Fruit Girl" is 20X16", acrylic on stretched canvas.
I'm still learning, transitioning and would never want to fall into the "this is my groove and I'm staying right here". I'm still pleased if something doesn't turn out the way I'd envisioned it - I'm old and relaxed enough now to let the paints flow and try to just gently nudge them around. It's the very evolutionary nature of paint and clay that continues to draw me.
