The pagan spirit of the forest, the Green Man, was first named as such in 1939 by one Lady Raglan in a paper on ancient church architecture. Traditionally, the Green Man is a representation of a man's face composed of leaves, vines, wood and other forest flora. Here, a majestic, intact green oak leaf sits surrounded by leaves that have already embraced the changes of autumn.
Shot in Middletown, Connecticut, October 19, 2010.
