This painting is a re-make of the very first Serialist painting I ever did. The first one however was much smaller and assembled using images of the Zig Zag logo to produce that same logo. Not only was there no juxtaposing imagery or narrative it was also somewhat poorly constructed. But, in the grand scheme of things it is the most important one because it was the spark, pun intended, that started it all. It wasnt until my second Serialist painting when I constructed a portrait out of George W. Bush made entirely out of pictures of Pinocchio, that I had my Eureka moment. It was then that I realized I had, not only, created a new artistic medium but one that was hilariously effective in its narrative and visual capabilities. This piece represents the contradiction between the prison/judicial systems criminalization of citizens for merely smoking marijuana when compared to societies perception of and the levels of success and power that one can attain, not because, of weed but in spite of its use and the social stigma attached to drugs. Our perception of Art and drugs has changed a great deal over a very short period of time. Lets hope that both continue to evolve and for the better.
