St Luke's initially had a portable labyrinth. This was a medieval Chartres replica, made of canvas, and was 12 metres in diameter. It was first used in the year 2000 but was lost in the earthquake of 22 February 2011 when the St Lukes Church was badly damaged.
The Labyrinth is an ancient path of wisdom, healing and peace that is found in many major religious traditions and cultures around the world, and dates back at least 5,000 years. The brick Labyrinth at St Luke's is a replica of the nearly 800 year old Labyrinth first found in Chartres Cathedral, France.
I love working in New Zealand as there is always something new to excite me.
