The temple site was dedicated on February 14, 1853. Groundbreaking ceremonies were presided over by Brigham Young, who laid the cornerstone on April 6 of that year.[12] The architect was Truman O. Angell, and the temple is said to feature both Gothic and Romanesque elements.[13]
