Description
The Magical Machine - Carousel | Fine Art Photograph by Colleen Kammerer ~
The 104-year-old carousel which was built in 1910 and relocated from Burlington County to Seaside Heights in 1932 - escaped Hurricane Sandy and then a massive boardwalk fire unscathed. But now it is facing the possibility of being dismantled and auctioned off in parts. News that the carousel could be leaving the boardwalk has triggered an outpouring of emotions from its fans. The petition to save the carousel reads in part:
"The antique carousel is a historic landmark along the Seaside Heights coastline! It is the final piece of history from the "original" boardwalk before Hurricane Sandy. It has survived so much, please don't take this beautiful piece of history away from our beloved Jersey Shore! Generations after generations have enjoyed the sights and sounds of this nostalgic icon!"

I read that there was a carousel dismantled in NJ and the fabulous horses were auctioned off. It made me so sad. I love the horses carved by Salvatore Cernigliaro, Frank Carretta, John Zalar and the companies and other carvers for the Carmel, Dentzel, Illions, Looff, PTC , Morris, Muller, Herschell Spillman..and my all time favorites of which there may be only two carousels left since the dismantled and auctioned the one off in Belchertown, MA ..Stein and Goldstein

This old carousel really looks beautiful. You captured a sweet photograph. And your story is tugging to the heart. I can see how many grew up riding this carousel so their memories are engraved and to tear it out would rip a wound wide one in those peoples minds and hearts. I hope the carousel can survive the dismantling and remain. Nice work.

Colleen, This is so full of motion and light. I can hear the music!
Colleen Kammerer replied:
Thanks for your wonderful comments Cecily! Yes, the music is great on this old timer, it has an original Wurlitzer Military Band Organ at its center.
