All imaginary....so there are no buildings which can be this or that.....but somehow it seems like I've painted NYC! Thanks, Laurie.

Really fabulous work, Nancy!!!!! :)))vf

Stunning work, Nancy!!

Thanks for the nice comment. This is the first time I tried a city abstract in this style.

This has to be my favorite of today, just fantastisk.

Oh, my...thank you! I was so surprised by this image....amazing how it changed with edits, and colors, and what I could "see" in the painting.

Wow Nancy, the different tones and light in this exceptional work is outstanding! I went to an Art-Hop in Lodi the other night and the featured artist was using bits of gold leaf in her abstracts and I can see how that could be used here (though this is absolutely exquisite).....so much energy in this!!!

I've worked with metallics and I have them handy in watercolor, acrylic, gouache and ink...plus a Sharpie full of poster paint in gold. . I should try them on ...the city! Thanks, Joyce. (I have never tried gold leaf.. that would be really good.)

Astounding creation of this night city in enchanting blues...l/f......Beth

The blues come from a computer effect.....but I do like the night city!

Gorgeous!! I love this! Instant v/f!!

The night is quite different!

They are all beautiful, Nancy! Your husband has good taste! :)

Thanks so much, Natalie. He'll like hearing that!

An instant favorite! Beautiful work, Nancy!

Big thanks for this support, Natalie. My husband urged me to post these.

Nancy,This painting just grabs me,you can see so much in it. Friend,Marsha FV dear for supporting me.! FV

So happy you liked my NYC! I'm always unsure, especially if what I'm posting is a different style than usual. This one was painted with a credit card!

I am not an expert on modern art. So forgive me. But can I tell you my thoughts as I gazed at this the first time? I saw the history of the city in layers, some remaining and others no longer there. My family history is tied up with NYC and so it struck me in a deep place. L/F

I agree that there seems to be history here. My family has ties here too and I've spent lots of time in the city. But does that explain that the ship on the river looks like it's from another period? Or that the waterfront is different, and some buildings look very antique etc. Interesting how this could have happened. I did not paint from a photo...simply imagination.

Terrific! Very New York.

Means a lot from a New Yorker! Thanks, Sarah.

Inspired dear Nancy , A wondrous abstract NYC cityscape...Those blues soooooooooooooo work .

So happy you found my urban soul...dancing in the twinkling lights of NYC. The computer helped me move to this gorgeous blue light!! Thanks for your nice visit and comment, Paul.

Wonderful abstract. Beautiful light and tones. l/f!

The computer is like a light switch....and I just turned the lights off and found this lovely blue!

Lovely job

That's Colin. I used Picasa to turn the lights out! To make it this lovely blue!

First of all I love the photograph but I was a little disappointed with the clarity of the print onto the duvet cover- was a little blurry. Also fine art america needs to add more ties on the inside of the cover- there is only one at each corner and my blanket tends to bunch up at the ends. Even my blanket has 12 ties to tie to the cover. I feel that fine art america really dropped the ball on that. Their ties for crying out loud- only 4? Other than that I was pretty satisfied overall but would probably not spend this much on a duvet cover ever again especially with fine art america' s flaws. Like I said overall pretty satisfied but expected more in quality for the price.

Artist's Description

"The Night City" by Nancy Kane Chapman is my abstraction of big cities, especially New York, but all of the big ones have this wonderful flavor, this compact mass of energy, these tall structures that cry to be painted.

About Nancy Kane Chapman

I began my love for art by watching my mother paint in oils and pastels. I must have caught the bug because I have enjoyed fifty years of drawing, painting and photography, urged on and instructed by professors, a botanist, a master of Chinese brush painting and calligraphy, water colorists and lately, mixed media devotees. After a course in cubism in 1973 I began to explore pen and ink geometric art. Each stroke was unplanned but exact, the designs becoming more elaborate and more fun to execute. First circles, then onward to straight lines, then organic and architectural constructions. Thirty years later I still dance out on the white space of a simple sheet of paper to weave new drawings. Picasa effects allow me to...
