"The Old Farm Lane"
by Debra and Dave Vanderlaan
...A 100 year old dairy farm
is shown here at sunrise.
The barns and fencing
were built over 100 years ago
by the Shields Family
who emigrated originally from Ireland,
settled in the pioneer village of Cades Cove,
then relocated to the western reaches
of the North Carolina
Appalachian Mountains near Murphy, in the tri-state area that borders on Tennessee and Georgia.
The farm is completely in operation,
raising all the crops needed
to feed the cows,
birthing the new babies
in the calving barn,
and milking the ladies
for the Mayfleld Milk Company...
Part of the Cherokee National Forest,
this rural area is very scenic,
tucked into the middle
of the southern Smoky Mountains...
