Description
The Palladium #2 - Still standing at 6215 W. Sunset Blvd., the Palladium site was originally the location of Paramount Studios. Built in a moderne deco style in 1940 by the publisher of the LA Times, The Palladium was known as the largest dance club in the world, and later known for hosting major awards like the Emmys and the Grammys. The Palladium underwent a $20 million renovation in 2008. Listed on the billboard is Jerry Gray, who recorded an album at the Palladium with his orchestra. Gray originally worked for Glen Miller and Artie Shaw, and as a composer, he was known for his musical swing arrangements like Chatanooga Choo Choo. In the background, you can see the famous green NBC Radio City Hollywood building. The Palladium was interestingly located between NBC Radio City at Sunset & Vine and CBS Columbia Square, now KCBS-TV/KNX Radio at 6121 Sunset. -
Melvin Hale (ArtistLA), an award-winning digital artist, uses vintage black and white photos and real photo postcards (RPPCs) to create realistic color digital paintings that bring the past alive. It's called Digital Realism. -
