Artist's Description

This blue pallet pavilion was built by volunteers under the direction of the Gap Filler team. Built over a period of 6 weeks, 250 volunteers put in over 2,500 hours to get it ready. It is made from 3000 recycled wooden pallets painted blue. It is on the site of the demolished earthquake damaged Crowne Plaza Hotel. It was supposed to be a place where people could have fun as long as it was not too wet or cold. High heels are banned as the gaps in the floor would cause thin heels to fall through. From the outside it looks like a two storey blue walled building. Shelves were purposely built to hold plants. Inside were orange container seats, pallet tables and a wooden bar where they sold drinks. The area could be used as a bar, cafe, cinema, party venue, concert venue, night club, banquet hall and anything else that is appropriate. It was supposed to shut at the end of April, but Gap Filler are trying to keep it for another year. More details here: http://www.gapfiller.org.nz/summe...

About Steve Taylor

I love working in New Zealand as there is always something new to excite me. Learned the hard way with film B/W, colour negatives and slides and now love the freedom that digital cameras can give you. As I am often several months behind when I start working on my pictures I am often surprised and excited at what I find. Each individual has to be adapted depending on the subject; sometimes they are nearly untouched and others have hours of creative changes to get them looking perfect. I can also take very good pictures of properties and other real estate.
