The Anna Maria City Pier with a restaurant and fishing as seen from one of the parking areas along the shore. The 776' long wooden Anna Maria Island City Pier was built in 1911 by George W. Bean's and Charles Roser's Anna Maria Beach Co. to lure wealthy visitors on Steamboats and paddleboats from Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Bradenton, Florida to the island hoping that they would invest in land there.
Today the pier and wharf extends 736" into Tampa Bay and is the host to a restaurant, bait shop, and any number of fisherman on any given day. It's a great place to fish, get a drink or a bite to eat.
Like many of the old generation of photographers, I began with a Kodak box brownie when I was a kid. When I saw what resulted, I was hooked. Having grown up with an aunt who was a professional artist, I was always exposed to the creative arts. As a result, I have always liked to paint. Later I went to the Defense Information School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison in 1966 where I got more intensive training in photography and photojournalism and practiced that craft in Vietnam and the United States. I studied with the Famous Artists and Famous Photographers Schools to help hone my skills. I study the composition, use of light, contrasts of intensities of color, etc. of artists works that I catch my eyes to help me hone my skills. I...
