This painting pictures a late summer country scene when the pastures are starting to yellow out against the still green oaks. The sky is a misty pale blue green with a tinge of rose. Pastel lends itself to immediacy as color is readily available in stick form without taking time to mix values as one must do when using oils. The finished result is often a surprise to me in a satisfying way.
