Watercolour painting of an Irish kitchen scullery on a summer morning. Sunlight pours in and a straying Maran hen wanders through the back door.
The traditional Irish country or farm kitchen had another small room attached known as a scullery used for storing wellington boots , buckets, rain gear and various paraphernalia ! It usually had a Belfast sink (for washing vegetables and cooking utensils)
This piece features the open doorway, a Belfast sink, a bucket, a basket of vegetables and wellington boots..
Maran hens and cockerels are clean and docile, with a passive disposition - very likely to wander in to the kitchen !
