When the water level on the Suwannee River is between 59 and 61 feet above mean sea level, the Big Shoals rapids earn a Class III Whitewater classification. Here the water level is much lower and still Florida's rapids are still impressive. Nearby the rushing waters rests an old tree, Deposited by the receding waters of a previous flood the old survivor waits for the next one to come along and move it on down the Suwannee River.
