This is a painting of a photograph I took in a protected area for swans. They have nests in different places and after giving birth you will see mama, papa and babies swimming with delight in the open waters. One particular day I happen to be walking my two dogs and enjoying my surrounding when I started hearing a horrible hissing sound....and the more I walked the louder the sound became....and then I saw the mother. She had her eyes on me and she was getting very agitated ......this swan was at least 5 feet tall.....so I kindly gave her space and walked really fast with my dogs in the opposite direction......upon which I ran into another walker who I warned about the mama swan.....she told me she had read about a man who was killed by a swan protecting her young......apparently no only do they protect, but they will leave no witnesses.....but they are absolutely gorgeous and graceful.........

As a child I would wonder about the particular painting I was looking at........what was the artist thinking......was this a familiar scene... what was the story behind it......I was curious about brush strokes and color selection.
