This is one of two identical hand painted ceramic eggs called, the Theotokos. The first egg is part of a collection at Holy Transfiguration Church in Warrenville, Illinois. The second egg is part of a private collection. Highlights of this egg, is the use of gold leaf paint around the heads of the Theotokos and Christ child. Rich in detail, the hand painting of eggs is a Russian and Ukrainian tradition known as Pysanki or Pysanky. This is the front of the egg.
