thank you Caroline, yes the times and the people inspired me greatly, thanks for your lovely comment..

Congrats sweet friend

Beautiful piece of work representing those amazing times!

Thank you Angela, so glad you like this painting!

Love this Carole! You have captured such an amazing mood! It is truly beautiful! v/f

Allen ..so insightul..thank you! yes, you really hit the proverbial nail..these people were the Glue /the heart /and the soul in each others lives, not fair weather, but mature, consistent and true..the greatest generation..I miss them ..though we met only on canvas..

mona, thank you for you extremely thoughtful comment! These days I really do try to save the emotion and the Drama for ONLY my painting.. which is a visual way of story telling., That way I can fully immerse into the times/people and places I depict Painting scenes like this one are extremely important ..because like the client stated above, they help to shape a families history and leave a legacy for future generations! so glad you like my work!:)

Thanks Pj..I thought these 7 great people were bravely adventuresome and sought to paint them as daring folks WITH SPUNK and personality and the foresight to leave the Gaspe area and relocate to the big city, especially during the War Years. I love that the 2 sisters are so closely leaning against one another and everyone being so well dressed and standing proudly with the Canadian soldier! My parents met and married in 1946,just after the war..My Dad was an American soldier, and so I totally relate to these times, the clothing etc with the many stories and photos my parents shared with me... I wanted to convey the attitude of pride and of a hopeful shining future in their countenance.

Nice. I like the gentle yet strong / tired but hopeful feel to this.

Beautiful and so emotional painting, Carole!!! Love your style and you so marvelously depicted this memorable scene...A truly wonderful artwork! f&v

Thanks Carole. With your help, I see this painting as a way of keeping my mum's memory alive long after she (and I) have passed. It will hang on a wall somewhere with all pertinent information summarized on the back of the painting (including your nice e-mail) and I'd like to think will be a topic of conversation for years to come. That was one of my motivations for having this done.

Harvey, thanks so much for coming here to comment, you are the pivotal figure behind the painting,, the man who gathered the old photos and put all the reference material together, so that this important project could take flight. . I am honored to play a small role in helping your mum celebrate her Birthday..I hope she really loves the painting and that all her precious memories of that time and place are rekindled! all my best to your mum and to the family! Carole.

Hello Debbie! Thank you, so very nice of you to post this comment .I hope I have succeeded in recreating the era when Mrs Artsob was a young lady and the world and times held so much promise. A real joy for me to paint this piece,,my sincerest wish is that everyone in your family really enjoys the painting!..especially the Birthday girl!!

Thanks Patti, she hasn't received the painting as yet, its a Birthday surprise!

It's absolutely lovely! The picture arrived well-packaged and in a timely manner. I can't wait to give it to my friend.

I like the print on solid metal but it's much, much darker than expected, hiding the most interesting details of the work. My girlfriend still loves it but I'm very disappointed.

I bought this for my bathroom remodel in Paradise CA. The colors were vibrant and beautiful and the quality excellent. Unfortunately I never had time to take a picture of it in its new setting because my house burned down in the Camp Fire. Maybe we'll just have to move to Lake Chapala to enjoy the view.

It’s way too dark and that’s not problem of screens or what ever else. That’s unprofessional printing.

Artist's Description

A commissioned portrait to celebrate the 93nd birthday of one of the ladies in this painting. She is pictured along with her sister, her brother and several other gentlemen and a Canadian soldier. For me, as the artist it was a privilege to go back in time and allow myself to become emotionally involved with these fine people,to immerse fully in the scene, to breathe the same air and to smile with these brave young individuals. I learned that they all came to Montreal from the Gaspe region of Quebec to find work and a new life. This painting depicts our bravest and greatest generation...In the words of author ,broadcast journalist Tom Brokaw : ''They knew the meaning of sacrifice, both in terms of material possessions and of real blood, sweat, and tears. They were humble men who never bragged about what they had done or been through. They were loyal, patriotic, and level-headed. They were our Greatest Generation.'' This Painting is by Montreal Street Scene Art Specialist Carole Spand...
