I hadn't thought of looking for pictures of mailboxes until now. This is a good representation of the mailboxes I've seen when I'm on the road. Often the cedar posts will be leaning when they have been hit by snow plows. Of course, many of us have to shovel snow around the mailbox so that the mailman can get close enough to access it. Sometimes the cover will be down instead of up. One morning, I went out to get the newspaper and I slipped and fell on a patch of ice at the end of the sloping driveway. I wasn't mindful of the fact that the temperature drops in the overnight hours. Fortunately, I wasn't seriously hurt. I also read in a newspaper that someone had been hit by a car when they were retrieving the mail from their box. The weather and poor visibility were factors. It looks like a gravel road in the picture. I think a gravel road makes the painting more picturesque than a paved road. It looks softer. It gives the sense of a more rural location.
