Artist's Description
Baz Bahadur was the last sultan of Malwa, an Islamic Sultanate in India. He succeeded his father Shuja'at Khan (r. 1542-1554), who had divided his kingdom among his three sons. After Baz Bahadur had assassinated his brother Daulat Khan in the dispute over the succession in a part of the empire and his other brother had fled, he was elevated in 1555 to the Sultan of Malwa all. He ruled as sultan to 1562, was considered a great patron of the arts, and legends about his love affair with the singer Roopmati have survived until today. The polity experienced under his reign, however, a decline, in particular the military threat posed by the Mughal Empire put Baz Bahadur against little. Place in Mandu - Madhya Pradesh - India
