One of the most effective fighters on D-Day, 1944, the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt, also known as the "Jug," was the biggest, heaviest, and most expensive fighter aircraft in history to be powered by a single reciprocating engine. Being air-cooled, it was less vulnerable than other aircraft that were liquid-cooled. It was one of the main fighter planes of World War II. The P-47 was effective in air combat but proved especially adept at ground attack. It had eight .50-caliber machine guns, four per wing. When fully loaded the P-47 could weigh up to eight tons.
Remembering back to my early years... my folks bought me a Kodak box camera (which I still have) for Christmas, and I remember the magic of getting a handful of 3” x 3” photos back from the drugstore. I know this is laughable to some of you, but we used to have to wait a week before we could see if we had any ‘keepers’ in the envelope, after the film was processed and prints were made. One-Hour photo stores were still several years away. So, now…Fast Forward to the post-high school years…. I took photo and design courses in college and later became a corporate photographer for a major firm. I've traveled to many events over the years, always in search of exciting machines that go FAST!
