Description
The only native stork in North America, a very large, heavy-billed bird that wades in the shallows of southern swamps. The wood stork (Mycteria americana) is a large American wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. It was formerly called the "wood ibis", though it is not an ibis. The habitat of the wood stork can vary, but it must have a tropical or subtropical climate with fluctuating water levels.
This bird was found wading and feeding in a tidal pool on Jekyll Island in Georgia.
