Tiger Bee resting on a solar light amongst Lemon Grass, it is actually considered an exotic looking fly. They have a long proboscis (much like a mosquito) used for drawing nectar from flowers - not blood. They have an attractive fuzzy body with black laced clear wings - no stinger. One of the benefits of these enormous flies is that the Female Tiger Bee will lay her eggs in Carpenter Bee holes, when the larvae hatch they will feed upon the Carpenter Bee larvae before they can mature.
Photographer drawn to nature, survivor of polio and breast cancer, expressing gifts in a spiritual and colorful sense providing healing focus for self as well as viewer. What a fantastic image Anita! I have never seen a tiger bee!! L/F
Anita Faye replied:
Thank you Marvin! I know, think this is a first for me as well. I was going to swat the poor thing thinking it was a huge horsefly... but, it was so pretty decided to research it first. I've only seen one other since this one, it was laying on the driveway in the gravel.
