When you get down on the ground, you see some beautiful things. I'm not sure what this flower is called, but it is just a tiny blossom down low to the ground.
Late afternoon light filtering through the trees makes for some nice shadows on this tiny gem.

Lovely image of a difficult to capture bloom, Joni; it almost looks like a fawn lily ... or ... I'd need to check with Google or my books to know for sure :))) {you might try Google images to see what comes up .. maybe...}

Oh thanks Connie. I so appreciate your comments. I think I found it. I believe it's called a Trout Lily, also referred to as a Dogtooth Violet. They're so tiny, it's amazing they have a name at all!

Thanks Aaron. Late afternoon is usually a pretty sweet time for that soft light - hoping our temperatures here start moving up so we can start seeing some of these beautiful flowers. Today its 32 degrees at the White Sox opener. So glad I'm not there - I'm watching the squirrels, birds and chipmunks in my back yard through the window of my nice warm house. I'm guessing in your neck of the woods, I get no sympathy for a mere 32 ( :
