Artist's Description
Scree (or talus) is the rock tailings that constantly break free from the rock outcroppings on a mountain. After years of thaw/freeze cycles the scree under a rock face can be huge. While on Mount Rainier in September, I heard the constant tumbling of rocks up to truck size coming off the tower above. This can make sleeping difficult and it can make climbing even more challenging. Crampons on rock scree is not a walk in any park I know of. However, the colors of the scree and rock towers of cathedral rock are stunning against the white snow and ice glacier cap of Rainier before a beautiful blue Washington sky.
About Mark Camp
At age 50, I decided to remake me; sure everyone thinks about changing their life from time to time, well I did it. I lost a lot of weight, and started looking for ways to stretch the new me. I found hiking and climbing in the local mountains in Western Washington. In my first year as the new me, I climbed many of the local 5,000 to 6,500 foot peaks many times, including summiting Mount St Helens and I climbed and summited Mount Rainier twice in a rather adventurous10 week period. In the process, I built strong friendships and even found that I enjoy climbing...with just me and my camera sometimes.
