There is something very appealing in the lines and angles and shapes of a old crowded hillside city! This is one view as we walked up from the Bisagra Gate to the Plaza de Zocodover. Sure, we could have taken a bus, but look what we would have missed. Plus, we needed the climb in order to earn ourselves some of the marzipan that Toledo is famous for! Toledo is a municipality located in central Spain, 70 km south of Madrid. It is the capital of the province of Toledo and also the capital of the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. for its extensive cultural and monumental heritage as one of the former capitals of the Spanish Empire and place of coexistence of Christian, Muslim and Jewish cultures, as well as the place where harsh religious persecutions were held against the Jews by the Visigoths.
