Absolutely loved my print. The depth and details are spectacular and the quality of the print is fantastic. I framed this in a white frame and didn't have the exact size handy so kept the lower space intentionally open. I love how it came out.

I bought this for a friend who lived in France for many years. Now that she is back in the states she misses France her favorite country. When I spoke with her on the phone she absolutely loved it. It showed all the places she lived or visited. She loved that it had an antique flair. She is getting it framed when she can. This my gift for her to bring up her spirits. She has stage 4 cancer. We live in 2 different cities & are comrades & would do anything for each other. When I saw it in the website I knew I had to buy it. Great work. A big thank you for your talent & putting out there to buy your beautiful map!!!

Artist's Description
"Tommy" depicts a WW1 soldier wading through a field of poppies in France some time during the 1914 - 1918 Great War. I was inspired to paint this when I was told by a visitor to my stand at an art show that 2011 was the Royal British Legion's 90th Anniversary. The visitor saw some of my poppy paintings and suggested that I should donate part of the sale proceeds to the Legion. I thought that I would go one better and donate a special painting for auction, along with the proceeds from the sale of prints and cards.
The original idea for this painting had already come to me when I was watching the 2007 movie "Atonement", in which there is a brief scene of a soldier walking through a poppy field during the retreat to Dunkirk in 1940. My wife said at the time that this would make a good painting. I decided that in keeping with the British Legion's anniversary and John McCrae's famous poem "In Flanders Fields" that inspired the poppy as a symbol of remembrance, a WW1 soldier would b...
About Richard Harpum
Award-winning artist, Richard Harpum, paints in a realist style, paying meticulous attention to detail. Richard's primary focus is landscapes, seascapes, cityscapes and gardens but he also paints portraits, still lifes and florals. The effective use of light is a key ingredient to all of Richard’s works and he spends a great deal of time before starting a painting in selecting a composition that provides both drama and contrast. Born in Bromley, England, in 1951, Richard has had a passion for drawing and painting from a very young age. As a youngster, he was always drawing and became a prolific painter after he received an...
