Beautiful! This looks like a crepe paper rose! You have impressive control of your brushes. I've done some hand painting in Photoshop and I know how difficult it is. A favorite!

Lois Bryan replied:

thank you, Priscilla ... I actually did the hand painting on this one in Corel Painter 2015. I've been using Corel Painter 11, but Santa brought the new version and for some reason have been struggling with it. This is the first one I've posted form the new program. Big fun ... once you've stepped on all the bugs, lol!!!

Wonderful rose, Lois! This is such a gorgeous digital painting... the treatment you applied is simply wonderful...love it! LF

Lois Bryan replied:

Mona, I'm beyond thrilled that you liked this one. You know that you and your amazing, glorious artwork have been an inspiration to me for a long time. Your richness of stroke and bold contrast and color are your hallmarks ... and they always take my breath away. I've been playing with Corel Painter 11 for a long time, but only recently received Corel Painter 2015 as a gift. Have been struggling with it a little for some reason, but I have to admit that painting in those programs and making the image do what I want it to do is so liberating!! So freeing and fun!!! That you took the time to stop by and leave such a beautiful note means the world ... thank you!!!

Gorgeous! Love the effects and color!

Lois Bryan replied:

Cathy .. so happy you enjoyed it!!

Even when dying, the beauty of a rose is clearly still there! Expressive and forlorn, lovely digital painting! LF

Lois Bryan replied:

Hey Angie, thank you ... I think so too ...

Lois, Congratulations on your Feature in Wisconsin Flower and Scenery !

Lois Bryan replied:

Very very beautiful!

Lois Bryan replied:

Thank you!!!

Congratulations on being featured in the Fine Art America Group "Images That Excite You!"

Lois Bryan replied:

John, thank you ... great news!!

Sometimes flowers, especially roses, look just as interesting when they have died. This one certainly does, beautifull treatment too Lois.

Lois Bryan replied:

Chris, that's so true. I have a collection that I have a great idea for a still life .. I'd better get it snapped quick, though, I saw my poor, long-suffering husband giving it the evil eye a week or so ago, lol!!! Glad you enjoyed this one!!

Fabulous work, Lois!

Lois Bryan replied:

thank you, Beve!!

Lois, Your words resonate with me....sometimes we know exactly what to do but with all that life throws at us it is sometimes hard to follow through! Jerry

Lois Bryan replied:

You've got me laughing ... Jerry, thanks so much for giving me the benefit of the doubt!! It really is so true, isn't it?? And I'd meant to get after these pretty flowers with the camera right away ... when I saw the roses droop, I knew it was too late ... but I am, if nothing else, determined!! Thanks so much for your vote of confidence in me!!

Lovely!!

Lois Bryan replied:

Thanks so much, K!!

Wonderful quality! Great experience - highly recommend this website.

I ordered this tote bag for myself and I love it. The colors are vivid and crisp. The fabric and handles are sturdy. I have already gotten several complements from others as I run my errands. They ask where I got it and I direct them to your website and give them the artist’s name. Glad I bought it.

This tote bag will be a December birthday gift for a family member. I was so pleased with it when I opened the package to inspect it. The colors were true to the picture on the website. The bag is sturdy and should hold up well. I’m happy with this purchase.

We love this image and proudly display it wherever we go. However, we actually prefer a smaller size. So... we ordered SIX more bags as Xmas gifts for all the women in the family. Six different images. And now we are going to order two more! My mom loves them so much, she can’t bear to part with them! Also, we were initially unaware that we could scale the images! We are delighted with these bags and know they will be a big hit at Christmas!

A fantastic artist with unique talent from mind.to brush. A truly wonderful lady. My daughter has also became a fan and has her own collection now of printed pillows. Thank you

Artist's Description

A beautiful red and white rose, given to me as part of a lovely bouquet for my birthday last year, as seen over a week later. Looks like it needed a snip to the stem to help it absorb the water a little better. You'd think that as a former (and fanatic) rose grower (the hungry deer in our backyard and the voracious cane borers finally won the war), I'd know better than to let this beauty get to this sad stage. A good refreshing cut on the bottom of the stem, daily, and even putting the roses in the fridge at night, will help them stay fresher longer. Clearly, I should have taken my own advice! This photographic image was taken with the Nikon D7000 and the Nikon / Nikkor 105mm micro / macro lens. A visit to Photoshop CS6 for a bit of brightening, then a full-on work out in the new Corel Painter 2015 for serious hand-painting fun. I think I'm finally getting the hang of the new Corel program that Santa brought! 9845

About Lois Bryan

Welcome to Lois Bryan Photography and Digital Art. I'm a photographer and digital artist living in the mid-Atlantic area of the US. Most of my images are based on the photos I capture ... some are based on images captured by my son, Rich Bryan ... and some are sketched and digitally painted completely freehand. Although my goal will always be to catch that perfect shot straight out of the camera, I love exploring the artistic and creative process as I work with Photoshop and other image editing programs. Fine art purchases of my images will not include watermarks, and if I may make a recommendation ... images will look their very best on the fine art paper choice of "picture rag."
