Description
Topiary - the art of clipping foliage into defined shapes - in Europe dates from Roman times. Having fallen out of favour, it was revived in the seventeenth century. This is a modest part of the oldest and finest such garden in the world at Levens Hall in Cumbria, in the north of England, Some of the yew trees are over three hundred years old, being there since the initial planting in 1690. The website is certainly worth a visit! I thought that this particular planting of verbena flowers was especially attractive in enhancing the greenery.
